New Pictures

Here are a few new pictures of Ava.  I can tell she has grown some.  Her favorite sleep position is with her hands up by her head, as you will see.  You will also see the new pacifier we got her, which she likes much better.

Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday today to Emma Claire Boyd, born at 2:27 pm in Abilene.  She weighs 7 lbs. 15 oz, is 20 1/2 inches long, and has lots of red hair.

Also happy birthday to Pam-Micah's mom.  She started school today on her birthday, which stinks, but hopefully it was a good day.

Micah started school today and he said it went well.  He hasn't made it home yet so I haven't talked to him about it too much, but overall I think things went well and he's looking forward to a good year.

Ava is sleeping better.  At night she has been going about 4-5 hours between feeding, and she has spread her feeding out during the day to about 3 hours and she is sleeping more.  I think she went through a growth spurt last week and she ate every hour and was fussy and didn't sleep hardly at all!  It drove me crazy, but it is much better now.  Also, Grandmama suggested that we get Ava a different pacifier, because she did NOT like the one we were giving her.  We thought she just didn't like a pacifier.  I bought her some different ones and we found one she likes.  It has made our world much better.  Now that I'm bragging all about her, she will probably change and stop sleeping and start eating all the time!

7

I just got another text from Page (1:45 pm) and all it said was "7".  I'm assuming that means she is 7 cm dilated...hopefully feeling well and getting closer to a baby!  She's dilated 3 cm in about 2 hours, so it should be soon!

Who Does She Look Like?

Ava and I made the trip to Garland today to see Grandmama and Papa.  She was good at first, but then got fussy the rest of the time.  We will have to go back soon and get her used to being somewhere else!  While we were at Grandmama and Papa's, we tried to decide who she looked like.  We can't figure it out.  What do you think??

Here she looks like Stacey-she has the classic "Dumb Stacey Look"
Here she looks like Micah with the square jaw...she also looks like she has red hair and blue eyes.
And here I think she looks a little like Papa, Micah says she resembles Tank because her tongue is sticking out.
Jake is teasing her already.  He thinks she looks like an old person.
Grandmama is trying to calm her down some.  She thinks she looks like a baby.

Pictures...Finally

So, I hired Nyquil as a nanny so I could post some pics (couldn't find a hispanic one, Jorge).  Just put a little in her pacifier and she went out like a light.  I'm not serious, but Ava has been awake and eating ALL DAY until about an hour ago, so hopefully she will sleep for a little while.  Here are some pictures.

Sleeping-she likes her crib best
Sleeping-she likes her dad, too
Trying to read to her, she didn't like it much
After the first tub bath
Proudly wearing the onesie Jake and Auntie Am bought her
This is the first bath at home-she's not crazy about baths yet
In her car seat-she really likes to ride in the car
In the bouncy seat, she doesn't really like this much yet, either
Pam, Ava, and Micah

Sleeping-she likes to sleep in our bed, also, though we don't let her do it much

Two Week Check Up

When we started this blog, I was determined that it would not be all about my kid...I would include other things that we were doing and that were going on in our lives as well.  Then we had a kid, and I have found that you don't do anything else and nothing else really goes on in your life except that kid!  It is fun most of the time, but we are both really tired and our house is a disaster and driving me crazy!  It is amazing how two weeks ago this little house was plenty big for Micah and I, and now that Ava is here, we have absolutely no room, there is stuff everywhere, and we are sooooo ready to find another place to live.

Ava had her two week check up today.  She weighed 7lbs 14 oz, which is 2 oz more than her birthweight, which is where she is supposed to be.  She is right at the 50% for her weight.  She is now 21 inches long, and is in the 75% for her height.  So right now she is a tall, skinny baby.  Don't know where that came from...

I have had some problems still, however.  We spent Saturday night at the ER because I had a 102 fever and found out that I have mastitis and a urinary tract infection.  I got some medicine, and I feel better.  I did have to give Ava some formula and breastmilk from a bottle, which she took very well.  She goes back and forth really good so I'm glad about that.  It has been a very interesting couple of weeks, and we are exhausted...but apparently it gets better!  We have enjoyed it very much and are grateful that Ava is here!  I will try and get pictures up soon.

One week down...

Well, they say the first two weeks of a baby's life are the hardest, and I think they are right!  Ava didn't sleep much yesterday or the night before, and wanted to eat almost every thirty minutes.  I called the nurses at labor and delivery today and they said she was probably going through a growth spurt.  Today she has been WONDERFUL and I actually feel more like myself.  My mom has been here today and taken care of a lot for us, and Micah and I were able to sleep until about noon today (with nursing interruptions).  Micah has been such a good dad.  He will wake up and change the baby and bring her to me and get her to sleep after she is done, and he remembers little of it the next morning.  I never knew he was such a sound sleeper, I'm glad he's not a fireman or something like that!!  I appreciate so much all of the comments and emails and phone calls we have received, it is exciting and encouraging to hear from so many people!  Thank you all. When I get the hang of this mom thing a little more, I will try and respond to some of my emails! We went to church Sunday night, so Ava had her first big outing, and she did great.  She slept the whole time, which made me happy because I was really nervous about having to nurse her or calm her during church.  As long as I remember to rely on God and know that things will be okay, it seems that everything gets better.  Amazing how that works, huh?  I've got some new pictures, and some video footage of me having contractions that I would like to put on there this week, so check back in.  Oh, and I want to thank my husband once again for posting during the delivery.  He tried very hard to spell things right, because he knew I would be mad if they were spelled wrong.  He even asked me how to spell words while I was having contractions...trying to take my mind off the pain, but at the moment I didn't really care about spelling.

More Pictures

Jennifer really likes this shirt!!

Home at last!!!

We finally got the leave the hospital and come home.  We made a quick stop by one of the Ennis schools to see my dad where he was working.  He enjoyed seeing her again and I think showing her off to his coworkers.  This was our last picture in the hospital before leaving.  They (Jennifer and Terry) wanted to dress her up in this "going home" outfit.  It was so uncomfortable on her and look silly to me but whatever.  It lasted till we got home then we changed her out of it.  Once again whatever.
Jennifer is doing good.  Terry stayed with us last night to help with some of the things around the house and that was very good.  I think that she is going home today so we will be on our own tonight.  We have to go back to the hospital on Thursday for a two day well baby check.  It doesn't take long but they just want to make sure that we are doing what we need to for Ava.  Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers and everybody's comments on the blog.  Jennifer finally got to read them all today and enjoyed them.

Going home

Ava in Jennifer's arm
Ava sleeping in the hospital
Terry (She hasn't decide what to call herself yet) with Ava

They have told us that we are going to be able to go home today IF the blood cultures come back with no problems.  When she was born, Jennifer and Ava had a temperature.  Jennifer's left after the birth and Ava's left shortly also but, they still wanted to take blood sample and check to see if anything was wrong.  The doctor came in this morning and told us this but he said that she looked good now and he didn't think that anything would be wrong.  Jennifer is feeling better now and Ava is nursing great.  We did give her a pacifier because she loved to suck on anything.  She would put her hands, towel, or anything and suck.  She still takes to Jennifer really good.  Terry is coming to help us get home.  Some how we are leaving with more stuff than what we brought not including Ava.  We are ready to go home.  It is not much fun being in a hospital when you could be at home doing the same thing.  I will try to get more pictures us soon.

Our First Picture

Well here she is.  (Ava is in the middle)  Jennifer just looks perky doesn't she??  We have had a long day.  Terry and Jack came by and also John and Kay Featherstone ( Micah's aunt and uncle).  We have enjoyed the day so far.  Jennifer is feeling better as the day goes on and walking and talking on the phone about her.  Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

August 4th 12:38 am

On August 4th at 12:38 in the morning, Ava Odell Fry was born to Micah and Jennifer Fry.  She weighed 7lbs 12 ozs and was 19 1/2 inches long.  We thought the whole day on the 3rd that she would be born then but she had different plans.  Every time the nurse would come in a check she would say "Let's just wait another 1/2 hour."  The first sets of pushes started about 11:56 pm and she came out at 12:38.  The doctor was in the room the whole time and he told us that only 5% of the babies born are born on their due date.  This means that she is already in the top 5% of the world.
They had to postpone things awhile because Jennifer and Ava were running a fever.  Around 12:30 the doctor said that they needed to go ahead and get her out.  He had to use this suction cup device that he put on her head and pulled her out faster.  This didn't make for a fun time for Jennifer afterwords.  After she was born she stayed in the room for 1 hour with us so that she could nurse and get use to us.  She latched on like a pro.  After that we went to the nursery so they could warm her up some and do all the final checks.  This is when I got to show her off to the waiting party at 1:30 in the morning.  Michael and Pam Fry, Terry Gipson, Jeff and Venessa Gipson, and Jake and Amber Gipson.  There was so many camera flashes I felt like Brad and Angelia with the paparazzi.  Everybody like her name and then most went back to see Jennifer.  Jeff and Venessa are leaving for Baltimore today so it was very nice of them to stay.  We were glad that they all got to stay and see her come into this world.
Jennifer and I finally got to go to sleep around 4:30 this morning after we changed rooms.  The one that we are in now is much nicer and more of a recovery room.  Ava is still nursing and doing good.  She hasn't slept much but she doesn't cry to much either.  She looks around at everything and I think notices when we are around.  She is a good baby.
Well I have done my best to keep you informed about our progress in the pregnancy.  I hope that you all have been pleased.
Till next time
Micah

9:00 pm

We have been here almost 24 hours and she has finally reached 9 cm.  The nurse is going to call the Doc to come to the hospital so he will be here when she comes.  Jennifer and I just got a little more nervous but we are ready.  I know Jennifer is ready.  She hasn't eaten anything but a bowl of cereal last night.  All she could have in the hospital was ice chips, popsicles, and hard candy.  This will be my last post till after the birth so if you are keeping up with us this way you will have to wait to find the name.  I will write when I am a daddy!!!

5:00 pm

Well about 4:00 to 4:30 they came and gave her the epidural and things are so much better now.  She is in a great deal of less pain and is taking a nap through most of her contractions.  She is up to 5 cm now and doing good.  They just increased her Pitocin level and the nurse said that things should be moving along a little quicker now.  We have had a few visitors, Michael and Pam Fry, Terry and Jack Gipson (Jack came this morning but went home but I think that he will be back latter), and Jacob and Amber Gipson.  Jake and Amber brought us some outfits that have some very funny sayings on them.  Examples are "I just spent 9 months on the inside" and "Fat kids are harder to kidnap".  We shall let her wear them proud.  Be more later

2:00 pm

Well at 2:00 pm they have given her some drugs (not epidural) to help with the pain.  It makes her droopy and not able to open her eyes.  She was checked and she is 2 cm dilated.  The contractions are getting closer and stronger just like everybody said they would.  It is about 68 degrees in the room but Jennifer is hot.  she wants her feet uncovered so he can get some air.  I am not supposed to talk during the contractions but just hold her hand and breathe with her.  We take long, slow, deep, breaths and that seems to be working for her.  I have developed the ability to type fairly decent with only my right hand.  I am doing good.  Thanks for everybody's concerns!!  Reporting from room 101 I'm Micah Fry.

Baby Day (We think)

Well we came to the hospital last night about 10:00 pm.  We thought that Jennifer's water had broke so we went in to check.  Sometime after midnight they decided to keep us till the baby comes.  They started an IV on her last night and some stuff to help her dilate (the nurse said it would ripen her cervix like an apple).  They have let her walk around and sit in a chair but this morning they are about to start pitocin (fake oxytocin) and that is going to keep her in the bed for the rest of the time.  It also will help with increasing her contractions and get her on to the epidural highway!  I don't know if it is like rout 66 or a large interstate.  We will try and keep you updated so you don't have to call.
